Hidden
Treasures Tour - thanks to
the Wakeham Trust
a group of ladies were able to
leave their routine behind them for the day and discover hidden treasures right
in the middle of Birmingham. Today we visited Selly Manor, a Tudor manor in
impeccable condition - some of the sisters were ready to move in until we moved
onto the grandiose Aston Hall which has been recently given a multi million
pound makeover and really is worth the visit. In fact both are, and the ladies
were baffled as to why they had never heard of such beautiful and interesting
venues virtually on their doorsteps. It proved a worthwhile visit, not just for
the beauty, but also for the group to appreciate a bit of true English history,
made all the more interesting when utensils used here were discovered to be
surprisingly similar, if not the very same as in their home countries.

Visit to Ceramica:
To complement our arts and crafts activities, we had the opportunity to
visit the home of ceramics in the UK - Stoke on Trent. There is a delightful
museum showing the history and contemporary work that goes on there. Everyone
had a chance to go on the potters wheel which proved a great success in everyone
getting well covered in slippy clay!

Visit to Think Tank:
Sometimes it's easy to forget the fabulous days out we can have right on our
doorsteps in Birmingham, so it was a good reminder for us all to visit the Think
Tank again! This time it coincided with a mini exhibition on Islam's
contribution to science, which was an eyeopener especially to see that many of
the medical interventions these days were first implemented by muslim doctors.
But even with all these astounding displays in abundance at the Think Tank, the
most popular was the old steam engine...

Visit to Highgrove
House: HRH Prince Charles gave us an unexpected treat in the way of an
invitation to explore his gardens which are famous for his commitment to organic
and GM free methods of growing plants. Unfortunately numbers were extremely
limited but happily the girls' class with some mothers had an interesting day
out. We were told by our guide that we were the first group of children that she
ever remembered coming to the gardens (she's been there 10 years!) and was
delighted by the girls' interest in everything they saw as well as their
behaviour and manners. It was especially interesting to see the tree house built
for the princes when they were little. And we all decided it would be a great
place to play hide and seek! At the end of the tour, we were treated with a cup
of delicious Prince of Wales' organic tea and shortbread. Although we were not allowed to take photos,
we picked up lots of ideas for future projects and bought some pictures from the shop on site:

زيارة لإقامة هايغروف
تكرم فخامة الأمير شارلتز بمكرمة خاصة تمثلت في دعوة لزيارة استكشافية لحدائقه
المتميزة بشهرتها في الاعتماد على النباتات المستنبتة عضويا والخالية من المواد
الكيمياوية. ولسوء الحظ فإن الأعداد كانت محدودة للغاية فحظي بها فصل البنات
مصحوبات ببعض الأمهات اللائي قضين يوما ممتعا خارج روتين مدينة برمنجهام.

هذه أول مجموعة من الفتيات منذ عشر سنوات - حسب ما أتذكر - تزور الحدائق " تقول
الدليل التي صحبتنا طوال الجولة والتي كانت مبهورة بدرجة اهتمام الزائرات من البنات
بكل ما يقفون عليه وكذا بسلوكهن المنضبط.
كما وجدنا فرصة للعب لعبة اختبئ وابحث !
وفي نهاية الجولة قدم لنا كوبا خاصا من شاي أمير ويلز مع قطع الخبز اللذيذ. وعلى
الرغم من أننا لم يسمح لنا بأخذ صور غير أنا أخذنا أفكارا كثيرة لمشاريع مستقبلية
إضافة إلى اقتناءنا بعض الصور من محلات الحدائق

Eid al Fitr party:
Thanks to everyone who helped make this happen! This was the party that very
nearly wasn't, but, elhamdulillah, our kids weren't going to be let down on this
one. One hundred and fifty people gathered to celebrate the end of Ramadhan with
a fine selection of Middle Eastern and North African delicacies contributed by
the families attending, a selection of anasheed by both the girls and the boys
and the inevitable inflatables to entertain not just the young but also a few
daring (?) adults.

نتقدم بالشكر لكل من ساعد في إنجاح هذا الحدث الذي فيه التقى فيه حوالي مائة وخمسون
من كل أنحاء دول الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا للاحتفاء بنهاية شهر رمضان؛ حيث كل
شارك بما عنده ، كما أطرب الأشبال مسامع الحاضرين بأناشيد واستمتع الأطفال بألعاب
متنوعة وكذا من تجاسر من الكبار !

Family Trip to
Drayton Manor Park: by popular request from the MENACA Saturday Club kids.
Two coaches filled with families looking forward to a long awaited outdoor trip
after the long cold winter set off bright and early on Saturday morning. Parents
and children had their winter cobwebs blown away by the spring weather and
the hair-raising rides. As always, Drayton Manor Park remains a fond favourite
for young and old alike.

مليئتان بالتلاميذ وأسرهم إلى الحديقة المشهورة المفضلة لكثير من الصغار والكبار
على حد سواء، للاستمتاع بالألعاب المتنوعة وقضاء يوم مليئ بالبرامج المختلفة.

really get some speed up in a safe environment. One of the more popular

Eid-el-Adha
Celebration at Swanshurst School: over 150 guests
participated in this annual celebration in remembrance of the Prophet Ibrahim
being requested by Allah to sacrifice his dear son Isma'il and then, after
showing total acceptance of the Will of Allah, Allah decreed that his son be
spared and sent a lamb to Ibrahim to be sacrificed instead. A memorable occasion
which was very well organised by a group of community members. Thank you!

الاحتفال بعيد الأضحى المبارك بمدرسة سوانس هارست : تعدى المشاركون عددهم المائة
والخمسون في الاحتفال السنوي الذي يذكر الجميع بسيدنا إبراهيم عليه السلام الذي
استجاب لأمر ربه في التضحية بابنه البار اسماعيل عليه السلام، وبعد تجاوزه هذا
الامتحان بالاستسلام الكامل لله تعالى وقبول أمره، فدى الله اسماعيل بكبش عظيم أرسل
إلى إبراهيم ليضحي به ويبقي ابنه قرة عين له. كانت المناسبة منظمة من بعض أفراد
الجالية ، نشكر الجميع على من ساهم في ذلك.

Rock-climbing: at the Rock Face, Birmingham. Very well received by both boys
and girls. Not only rock climbing but caving too which meant some pretty
difficult situations to get through. Sadly, the course had to be cut short as
the Rock Face has closed down - a great pity as the training there would have
guaranteed the kids ability to attempt the real thing.

تسلق الصخور: في روك فايس في مدينة برمنجهام التي استقبلت أبناء النادي الثقافي

من كلا الجنسين ذكورا وإناثا ، ولم يقتصر الأمر على ممارسة التسلق على الصخور فقط
بل وتحدى المشاركون الكهوف رغم الصعاب التي واجهتهم. وللأسف لم يستمر نشاط التسلق
لأن المشرفين اضطروا لإغلاق المكان . وهذا شيئ يدعو إلى الشفقة لأن التدريب لو
استمر لمنح الأطفال القدرة على مواجهة الأمر على حقيقته.
